British supermarket chain will have 40MW of rooftop solar by 2015


Why haven't big retailers here, in the US, like Walmart, Target, and Home Depot have their roof's covered in solar PV & thermal. The financial incentives are there, you just have to want it.

Although the above is valid...US regulations have increased the installation, operation, and maintenance costs of solar. (Even with the incentives) At this time in the US it takes 15-18 years to recoup your initial investment. This does not include industry advancements requiring upgrades, replacement, and continuing maintenance of just the panels and salaries for workers. The scale in which large scale box merchants require makes utilizing this technology in THE US counter-profitable. We wonder why we haven't changed to energy provided free by the sun.

The Europeans are way ahead of the US in this.
